Investigating efficiency improvement in sulfur recovery unit using process simulation and numerical modeling

Hydrogen sulfide exists mostly as a detrimental byproduct in the gas processing units well refineries, and it must be eliminated from natural streams. In Sulfur Recovery Unit (SRU), hydrogen is converted into elemental sulfur during modified Claus process. Efficiency of recovery significantly depends on reaction furnace temperature. this work, effect oxygen acid enrichment temperature accordingly studied, using both numerical modeling process simulation. Then, simulation model are benchmarked against experimental data an SRU unit. The validated provides spotlight optimizing upstream removal unit purification Two cases streams with low high H 2 S content, 30% 50%, studied to investigate operating parameters overall recovery. Finally, average errors models presented. According absolute difference values, developed shows great potential for accurately estimating efficiency
